This Act, consisting of 109 sections divided into seven Parts and completed by seven Schedules, provides for the protection of the environment and for the control of pollution. It consist of the following parts: Preliminary (1); Administration (2); Environmental management (3); Enforcement provisions (4); Environmental impact assessments (5); Ozone protection (6); Miscellaneous and supplemental (7).; This Act provides for the establishment of the Environment Protection Authority and of the Board of the Environment Protection Authority. It defines its composition and its functions.; Part 3 provides for the assessment of environmental impacts, assessment of activities, environmental agreements, which the Board may conclude or approve, and for environmental improvement programmes. If the Board considers that an environmentally relevant activity has caused, is causing, or is likely to cause, environmental harm, the Board may, by written notice served on a person, require that person: (a) to undertake an environmental audit of the environmentally relevant activity for which that person is or was responsible; and (b) to prepare and submit to the Board a report on the audit (sect. 30).; The Act further provides for: requirements for environmental impact assessments; awareness regarding contaminated sites; offences; powers of authorized officers and council officers; establishment of an Environmental Protection Fund; etc.
