Environment (Amendment) Act 2014 (No. 10 of 2014).

This Act amends the Environment Act with respect to a wide variety of matters and in relation with the enactment of the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority Act 2014. Matters subject to modification include: environment management planning and policy, environmental audit or investigation, definitions of contaminants, general environmental duty, causing environmental harm (defined), freshwater pollution, classification of activities as being harmful to the environment, (the duty to have) environmental permits and conditions of permit, a notice on the applicant requiring the applicant to undertake an environmental impact assessment in relation to the proposed activity, matters to be included in an environmental impact assessment, the duty of submitting an inception report prior to an environmental impact assessment, review of an environmental impact statement, offences, environmental bonds, functions of the Director of Environment, clean-up orders and regulation-making. A new section allows the Minister to establish a Technical Standard by notice in the National Gazette, following a recommendation by the Director. A Technical Standard may be established in respect of all or any of the following matters: (a) a contaminant; or (b) an industry or activity; or (c) a technology or process; or (d) a beneficial value; or (e) waste management or minimization; or (/) noise; or (g) decommissioning and rehabilitation requirements.
